The bears, lemurs and other animals at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham cooled off with a summer treat on Monday.

During Watermelon Day, they pawed at and pounded through dozens of the juicy melons. The museum uses the day as a way to talk to visitors about how they care for the animals during the hot summer days and keep them busy.

The image gallery shows off the fun that animals and people had on Monday.
