— Durham Public Schools will host its first literacy summit on Saturday at Brogden Middle School from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Attendees are expected to learn strategies that will boost elementary students’ reading and writing skills while aligning community efforts to meet state reading standards. Trained volunteers will be asked to commit themselves to supporting Durham students during summer reading camps and throughout the upcoming school year.

Those interested in attending can either pre-register or sign up when they arrive. Child care will be offered to those who pre-register. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
