Durham rape suspect surrenders to police

— A Durham man accused of sexually assaulting a child surrendered to police Thursday.

Police said that Avis Deshon Trueluck, 34, was placed in the Durham County jail under a $1 million bond.

Trueluck faces charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual offense with a child and taking indecent liberties with a child. Police did not comment on the circumstances that led to the charges.

Trueluck was convicted of misdemeanor assault on a female in 2002, according to state Department of Correction records.

    So if he was convicted why was he out in the real world. Once they are convicted of such a crime keep them locked up! If they are convicted of rape they should get the dealth penalty. Bet that would stop a few of them.

    katebroderick/ Read the story again. It reads misdemeanor assault for the 2002 conviction. The sexual assault is one of the current charges.

    I don't see how any sexual assault on a female can be considered misdemeanor.
