Durham prosecutors to seek death penalty in 9-year-old's death
Durham County prosecutors said Tuesday that they intend to seek the death penalty against Everett Lamont Graves, 23, who is accused of shooting and killing 9-year-old Jaeden Sharpe on Jan. 4 while he rode in a car with his mother.

Jaeden Sharpe died Jan. 10, six days after police say Everett Lamont Graves, 23, shot both the boy and his mother, Lakeisha Holloway, on Lucas Drive.
Holloway was able to drive to a nearby street for help.
A Rule 24 hearing, in which a judge will determine if the state's case meets the requirements for the death penalty, has been scheduled for the week of April 7.
Police arrested Graves Jan. 23 on charges of first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Authorities have said that the shooting did not appear to be random, but they haven't offered additional details about the case.
Jaeden was a student at W.G. Pearson Magnet Elementary School in Durham. Family members described him as a good student whom everyone loved.
