Durham police searching for men wanted in October robberies

Authorities said Tyree Lunsford, 19, and Russell Wright Jr., 21, approached a man and woman in a parking lot in the 2800 block of Chapel Hill Road on Oct. 19, grabbed the woman and took her phone. Wright also hit the man in the face with a gun and took his phone and wallet.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are seeking public assistance in locating two men wanted in connection with October robberies.

Authorities said James Tyree Lunsford, 19, and Russell Wright Jr., 21, approached a man and woman in a parking lot in the 2800 block of Chapel Hill Road on Oct. 19, grabbed the woman and took her phone. Wright also hit the man in the face with a gun and took his phone and wallet.

Lunsford and Wright are both charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy and assault by pointing a gun in connection with the incident.

Wright is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incident and is facing charges of larceny of a motor vehicle and larceny of a firearm in connection with a separate Oct. 19 incident.

Lunsford is also wanted in connection with an Oct. 24 armed robbery at Golden Pizza at 2300 Chapel Hill Road in which three men wearing hoodies entered with guns and took the cash register.

Lunsford is facing charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy and kidnapping in connection with the incident.
