Durham police: Man shot in stomach, back, backside

Posted June 3, 2008

— Durham police were searching for a small, burgundy car after a man was shot in the stomach, back and backside late Monday.

Officers said they found the shooting victim, whose name was not released, at 2809 Crest St. in the yard. The man was taken to Duke Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A small, burgundy vehicle (possibly a Toyota Corolla) was seen leaving the scene of the crime, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the District Three substation Investigation Unit at 560-4583, or Crime Stoppers at 683-1200.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

This was only a few blocks from DUMC... it is a pretty convenient place to get shot. Maybe it happened somewhere else and the victim got dumped there?

After reading Mayor Bell's Q&A, it is good to know he isn't concerned about people getting shot and living, only people who die. So for those keeping score, getting shot in the stomach and back is *not* a knock against safety in Durham in the Mayor's eyes. Heck, maybe this is one of the "GREAT" things he says are occurring in his city.

Darius - I've lived in Durham most of my life, I'm not "stuck" here. Durham has it's bad spots yes but have you read the crime reports for Raleigh lately? (oh wait you probably just wait for a Durham crime story so you can post your little terse condescending comments)

Hey it's DURHAM.. what do people think goes on there? I wouldn't spend 5 minutes in that hole. What is truly sad are the number of people who are stuck there that act like misguided cheerleaders always talking about how " fantastic" the town is. Durham is a crime ridden DUMP, along the same lines as Gary, Indiana....but with less class.

Maybe Duke is so good because they get so much practice with stuff like this happening day in, day out...

And yes I can say that. I live in durham.

"Who shot the victim??? Did the police shoot him? Did someone else shoot him?" Posted by whatusay

The police are trying to determine that. How about reading the article next time. If they knew who shot the man - they would not be asking for the public's assistance. In addition, someone reported seeing that car leaving the crime scene. Standard procedures. Durham is not safe and one of the best places to live as that recently stupid article stated.
