Durham police make arrests in 32 burglaries

Leron Owens, 24, of Hope Avenue and Waycross Road, was charged in 32 burglaries, Joshua Wilder, 19, of Barry Street, in 26 burglaries, Tyrell Young, 23, of East Greer Street, in nine burglaries, and Anas Salih Abdul Hakeem, 23, of Shepherd Street, in one burglary.

Police said the burglaries occurred from February to July in the Swanns Mill, Glennstone and Summer Meadow subdivisions in northern Durham and in the Cardinal Lake, Pebblestone, Ridgefield, Landon Farms, Stillwood and Carpenter Pointe subdivisions in eastern Durham. Owens was also charged in connection with a December 2009 burglary on Hemlock Street.

The burglars stole TV sets, computers, iPads and game systems, police said.

A 911 call about suspicious activity helped identify the suspects, police said. U.S. marshals arrested them on July 12, and the subsequent investigation linked them to the string of burglaries, police said.

All four suspects were placed in the Durham County jail. Owens was given a $523,956 bond, Wilder a $395,000 bond, Young a $35,000 bond and Hakeem a $25,000 bond.

Owens was also charged with violating his probation for 2010 convictions on four counts of breaking-and-entering and two counts of larceny after breaking-and-entering, according to state Department of Correction records.

He has seven addition convictions, including assault on a female, assault by pointing a gun and misdemeanor breaking-and-entering. He's served one five-month jail sentence.

Wilder is also on probation for March convictions for possession with intent to sell, felony breaking and entering, conspiracy and a drug offense, DOC records state.

Hakeem has served probation for a shoplifting conviction, and Young for four convictions, including carrying a concealed weapon, drug dealing and trespassing, records show.
