DURHAM, N.C. — Police said Thursday that a report of a sexual assault in Durham two days earlier was unfounded.

A woman told police that she was waiting for a ride early Tuesday when a man dragged her behind a business in the 4700 block of Hope Valley Road and assaulted her.

Police said Wednesday that further investigation determined the alleged crime didn't occur on Hope Valley Road, and they were continuing to investigate the case.

By Thursday, police determined that the woman made up the assault story.

Investigators don't plan to charge the woman with filing a false report, police said.
