Durham police investigate fatal wreck
Durham police are investigating a fatal traffic accident that happened early Saturday on U.S. Highway 15-501 between the Morreene Road andN.C. Highway 751 exits.
Posted — UpdatedProdiguois Santuyo Villa, of Carrboro, was driving an SUV southbound on U.S. Highway 15-501 around 1:45 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, police said. The SUV ran off the left side of the highway, struck a guardrail and flipped. The SUV then came to rest on the guardrail.
Villa was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said. Fernando Palomares Meudor, 27, of Chapel Hill, was a passenger in the vehicle. She was treated at Duke for minor injuries.
Police said alcohol appeared to be a factor in the wreck.
