Durham police investigate fatal hit-and-run

Police on Monday were seeking the public's help in their investigation of a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident that happened late Sunday or early Monday in eastern Durham.

DURHAM, N.C. — Police on Monday were seeking the public's help in their investigation of a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident that happened late Sunday or early Monday in eastern Durham.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Chandler Road at 1:07 a.m. Monday to investigate a report of a man lying by the side of the road. When officers arrived, they found a teen lying near 220 Chandler Road.

The victim, identified Tuesday as 16-year-old Joseph Sanders, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators were looking for a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser that was built between 2006 and 2008. The car might have damage on the right side, police said.
