Durham police find backpack, not bomb, in parking lot

Posted November 15, 2010

— The Durham Police Department bomb squad detonated a backpack late Sunday after it was found in the parking lot of a convenience store.

Police said the bag, which turned out not contain explosives, was found outside the Fast Food Mart on Chapel Hill Road at about 7 p.m. Sunday. A robbery suspect used the threat of a bomb to make his getaway, officers said.

No one was hurt in the robbery or detonation, and no suspect description was available.

It has turned from safety to a Police Department money maker. The more they respond, the more money and people they can ask for. Same is true for other first responder agencies. This has nothing to do with safety and EVERYTHING to do with manpower and money! Otherwise, they'd walk a bomb dog by it and with no additional expense, learn that the bookbag was....... only a bookbag. More-ons.

This was a a robber using the bag as a fake explosive in a robbery, and a Durham police bomb squad blew it up...this isn't like it was a random bag found, and they were all paranoid of it being a bomb...He said it was infact a bomb, it was used in a robbery. What do you think the local PD bomb squad is for? To sit around and eat donuts? Clearly this isn't from the "terrorists" in which the context of your statement was used, so it's irrelevant.

"How do you detonate a bombless bag?" Bartmeister
    Use explosives.

Exactly! That is what they want...for Americans to be so afraid. Looks like they are getting what they want.

I learned a long time ago that those who can do and those who can sit on WRAL.com and complain!!!!!

And if there had been a bomb and it went off, you would be the first one on here complaining about how incompetent they were for not handling a bomb threat correctly.

The robber is long gone while the police put on their big show with the empty bag. They watch too much TV.
