DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Police Department bomb squad detonated a backpack late Sunday after it was found in the parking lot of a convenience store.

Police said the bag, which turned out not contain explosives, was found outside the Fast Food Mart on Chapel Hill Road at about 7 p.m. Sunday. A robbery suspect used the threat of a bomb to make his getaway, officers said.

No one was hurt in the robbery or detonation, and no suspect description was available.
