— Police have cited a driver who collided with a police car at a Durham intersection Sunday afternoon.

No one was injured in the wreck, but the Durham police cruiser, which had less than 1,000 miles on it, appeared to be totaled, authorities said.

Police said the driver told investigators she thought she could make it through the intersection of Shannon Road and University Drive before the light turned red but couldn't.

The driver, Turkisha Johnson, of Durham, was cited for a red-light violation.

"Well there goes a few more tax dollars pad by just a few of our citizens."

What do you want to bet that it's insured?

    "You ca't fix stupid...obviously!"

    Perfect example.

LocalYokel is exactly right. Don't trust anyone to stop at a red light. And this applies to pedestrians at a crosswalk also. I've seen pedestrians engrossed in their Iphone glance up and see the walk sign, stare back at the phone and walk into the road without checking on traffic. You think the cruiser looked like a total loss, just imaging what a pedestrian would look like. Don't bet your life on everyone obeying traffic laws. Pay attention.

"they don't build police cars today like they used to."

The government killed the Crown Vic with the CAFE standards.

Ford got around it for a while with the Crown vic by making it an imported car but it was doomed.

Killing large cars have been some of the success behind large SUV's and four door trucks which ironically get even worse fuel mileage. A crown victoria could barely eke out 30 MPG on the highway at 65 MPH. No large SUV can come close to that.

They don't make ANYTHING like they used to

Not surprised at all. I'll pushed lights in Durham as they've turned red and been amazed to see as many as three vehicles follow through as well behind.

Way to catch those bad drivers Durham PD!

remember kids, if you don't want to be hit by a red light runner then scan the intersection before you enter it.
