DURHAM, N.C. — A Georgia woman who was with a man before he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Tuesday behind Durham police headquarters has been charged with stealing a vehicle, police said Wednesday.

Michaelia Desaree Daughtridge, 18, of Marietta, has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle in Durham and armed robbery in Georgia, according to a news release.

Authorities say Daughtridge was with Jeremy Darnell Artis, 21, also of Marietta, Tuesday morning when he crashed a stolen vehicle into another car in the Durham police headquarters parking lot.

Artis got out of the car following the wreck and ran toward Gordon Street, where he shot himself, police said.

Daughtridge was taken to a local hospital and later released. She was being held without bond Wednesday in the Durham County jail.

Authorities said the vehicle Artis was driving had been reported stolen in Georgia.
