Durham police charge 16 in drug operation

— Durham police investigators have filed 66 charges against 16 people following a monthlong undercover operation targeting street-level drug dealers in the Southside community.

Police said the focused on the area – which includes South Street, Enterprise Street and the 900 block of Fayetteville Street – because of complaints about drug sales in the area.

Those arrested were:

  • Xavier Johnson, 36, two counts of sale of heroin, two counts of delivery of heroin, two counts of possession of heroin with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, two counts of maintaining a dwelling for the manufacture, sale or delivery of controlled substances, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and five drug charges. Investigators confiscated 13 Oxycodone pills, one Vicodin pill, 2.4 grams of marijuana and a .25-caliber pistol.
  • Torrey Taborn, 25, sale of cocaine, delivery of cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a city park (Forest Hills) and maintaining a dwelling for the manufacture, sale or delivery of controlled substances.
  • Benjamine Page, 34, sale of heroin, delivery of heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a school (R.N. Harris).
  • David Johnson, 32, conspiracy to sell or deliver heroin and maintaining a vehicle for the manufacture, sale or delivery of controlled substances.
  • Keith Watson, 23, sale of cocaine, delivery of cocaine and possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a city park (Hillside Park).
  • Ramone Anderson, 26, sale of cocaine, delivery of cocaine and possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a city park (Hillside Park).
  • Joseph Christmas, 34, sale of heroin, delivery of heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of city park (W.D. Hill).
  • Kalid Gillard, 22, sale of cocaine, delivery of cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for manufacture, sale and delivery of controlled substances and possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a school (Eastway Elementary School).


Investigators also have charged eight people have not yet been arrested:

  • Jermaine Jenkins, 37, sale of heroin, delivery of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver and maintaining a dwelling for the manufacture, sale or delivery of controlled substances.
  • Eric Ray, 30, sale of heroin, delivery of heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a city park (Hillside Park).
  • Randy Whoie, 28, two counts of sale of cocaine, two counts of delivery of cocaine and two counts of possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a city park (Hillside Park).
  • Decarus Smith, 34, sale of heroin, delivery of heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a school (Kestrel Heights).
  • Curtis Strickland, 46, sale of heroin, delivery of heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver
  • Kenya Thompson, 41, sale of heroin, delivery of heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a school (Hillside High School).
  • Charles Daniels, 22, sale of heroin, delivery of heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a city park (Hillside Park).
  • Francis Okonji, 24, sale of cocaine, delivery of cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver and maintaining a vehicle for the manufacture, sale or delivery of controlled substances.
