Durham police capture wanted robbery suspect

Posted May 21, 2013

— A man wanted in a residential theft and retail robbery in Durham was captured Tuesday after being on the run for a week, police said.

Peter Warren Chambers, 23, of Mahone Street, was caught on Lydias Way after a short foot chase, Durham police said.

Officers had been asking for the public’s help in locating Chambers, who is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of kidnapping.
Police said Chambers, wearing a black bandana to cover part of his face, went into the Rite Aid on Woodcroft Parkway on April 26 and demanded money from an employee. Two employees were forced into an office at gunpoint.

Chambers also is accused of breaking into a home on Mayruth Drive in February and stealing cash and a television. Police said he also stole a television in May.

If he had just surrendered last week he'd probably be out already.

I can almost bet that the DPD didn't catch this guy, the public, or should I say some1 that knows of him or either in his circle, caught him. DPD rarely does things like that, so for ppl that's saying good job to DPD, get real!

Glad the cops didn't capture an unwanted robbery suspect. Always get a kick out of WRAL's headlines.

I agree...the judges are a joke in Durham County when it comes to handing down stiff sentences..

Good Job DPD! Funny how when the police do something good, no one appreciates it but yet when the public thinks something went wrong, they are the first to criticize...
