Durham police arrest SC man in connection with 2012 double murder

A 38-year-old South Carolina man charged in connection with a 2012 double murder on Dawkins Street in Durham was taken into custody early Tuesday, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A 38-year-old South Carolina man charged in connection with a 2012 double murder on Dawkins Street in Durham was taken into custody early Tuesday, police said.

Tyrone Thompson was taken into custody at about 6:30 a.m. in Goose Creek, S.C., by members of a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force From Charleston.

Thompson is charged with murder in the deaths of Paul Noel and Timothy McGhee.

According to investigators, Noel and McGhee were killed when numerous shots were fired into a home at 1212 Dawkins St. at about 9 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2012.

McGhee, 24, was found dead inside the home after the shooting. Noel, 22, was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Thompson was charged with murder in the shooting last month. Durham police said Thompson was being held in the Berkeley County jail in South Carolina, where he is awaiting extradition.
