Durham police arrest Charlotte fugitive

Durham police arrested a 21-year-old man Saturday night who was wanted on outstanding warrants in Charlotte. He faces assault, weapons and drug charges.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police arrested a 21-year-old man Saturday night who was wanted on outstanding warrants in Charlotte.

Samuel McCrae III was picked up near Massey Avenue and Fayetteville Street, Durham police said.

He was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and one count each of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, carrying a concealed weapon, felony drug possession, resisting a public officer and possession of an open container of alcoholic beverage in passenger area.

McCrae was being held in the Durham County Jail Monday under a $550,000 bond.

According to state Department of Correction records, McCrae was released from prison July 3 after serving nearly 2 years. He was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and drug offenses. He was also put on probation in 2006 after being convicted of assault inflicting serious injury.

DOC records show that McCrae racked up 24 infractions during his prison term, including two for assault, three for involvement with a gang and 10 for sexual acts.
