— Durham police said that an officer shot and wounded a person who fired a gun after a traffic stop at Dearborn Drive and Ader Street Tuesday night.

Officers stopped a Nissan Altima for a traffic violation around 10:40 p.m. A passenger got out of the car and fired several shots at officers, police said. Officers returned fire, hitting the passenger in the abdomen and leg, police said.

Paramedics transported the passenger, Elliott Josiah Pierce, 26, of Durham, to Duke University Hospital for treatment.

The officers were not injured.

The Altima was found abandoned a short distance away, police said. Officers are searching for the driver and a second passenger.

The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation.

"Funny how you only find leo-nc's posts on stories that involve LEO's and not anywhere else on WRAL??"---

Funny, you must not read very much because you will find me posting on all kinds of stories. Nice try though. Still an amateur.

Journey985: At least we know you have a complex against the police!! Maybe you should be the one seeking therapy.

Funny how you only find leo-nc's posts on stories that involve LEO's and not anywhere else on WRAL?? I sense a severe complex on his part..perhaps some therapy leo-nc? As I previously stated, the officers involved in this story did the right thing, the thugs in the Altima were just plain stupid, and as previously stated, I believe and think once the dash cam footage is released, that we will see a whole other side to what REALLY happened on I85.

We pay our police to protect us. Whatever those guys were doing to be carrying a gun, someone needed protection. They weren't out sharing Jesus or picking up litter on the side of the road. Shooting them is a public service. Police officers should get a bonus for every criminal the shoot; double if they save us the trouble of court and jail expenses.

How is that remotely similar to the I-85 case? These guys were already involved in shooting, and the policeman was shot before he even got out of his car by fleeing suspects. This could not be less of a parallel.

    Shoot first..Ask questions later. ..

LEO said "Whether YOU think so or not, the law DOES" - laws can change. I hope laws that allow cops to shoot & kill unarmed people are changed.

"I defend my fellow LEO's when appropriate and will support prosecution if it were appropriate."

You should have stopped after LEO's.
