DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham County Sheriff’s Office is searching for men who broke into a man’s home while he was sleeping and held him at gunpoint while they stole valuables.

The man called 911 from a neighbor’s house after the robbers fled his home in the 3000 block of Olde Coach Road in Durham. He told deputies he was sleeping upstairs when he awoke about 9:15 a.m. to the sound of something crashing downstairs.

A man armed with a pistol came into his bedroom and held him at gunpoint while at least two others searched the home. Police said the robbers left minutes later with several electronics and the victim’s cellphone. They fled in a silver sedan.

Investigators said they believe the crime was random and the suspects thought nobody was home.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 919-560-0880 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash for information leading to an arrest, and callers may remain confidential.
