— The Durham County Sheriff’s Office is searching for men who broke into a man’s home while he was sleeping and held him at gunpoint while they stole valuables.

The man called 911 from a neighbor’s house after the robbers fled his home in the 3000 block of Olde Coach Road in Durham. He told deputies he was sleeping upstairs when he awoke about 9:15 a.m. to the sound of something crashing downstairs.

A man armed with a pistol came into his bedroom and held him at gunpoint while at least two others searched the home. Police said the robbers left minutes later with several electronics and the victim’s cellphone. They fled in a silver sedan.

Investigators said they believe the crime was random and the suspects thought nobody was home.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 919-560-0880 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash for information leading to an arrest, and callers may remain confidential.

Basic, wireless battery-powered motion detectors have gotten dirt cheap in the past few years. I have an alert that goes off inside my house if someone approaches the front door or the back door. You want to know that someone's about *before* they get inside, not after. That way you have plenty of time to grab your 12 gauge, call 911 (or not) and then be ready to welcome your guests.

Yes, it's not just about having a weapon inside the house. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

@Gidder Dun said, "A gun would solve this problem instantly....."

Did you miss the part about a gun making this problem possible?

I hope that they catch these low lifes. I am glad that the man was not injured.

Unbroken, I'm not scared, I carry. I do agree with all the others regarding PJM though. He needs to rethink the situation and get a real grip on reality. He is the kind that makes law abiding citizens look bad. I can see him waving his pistol around like it makes him somebody. If that is what he thinks, he should become LE.

Do they not give race anymore? Ah, are we looking for a Mexican, Indian, Italian, white, black person?

I heard race is no longer being given. I actually believe this, because on WTVD, they don't give race anymore, either. THEY SHOULD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love how the blame of it being in Durham as the main cause has already come into play in a few posts..Didn't the same thing happen in a handful of other counties in the last month or so?? Wake up people and see its not a Durham issue but a state wide issue even more..

Can we get a description of the armed robbers, not just the car, so we can be on the lookout to provide information?

  • Offshore Aug 15, 2013

I am all for armed self-defense, but it's not trivial.
    TimeWillTell

    Agree completely with your statement.
