— A Durham man was seen in a brief altercation with another man right before he was shot and killed in a parking lot Sunday afternoon, police said.

Javier Arreola Rodriguez, 40, was wounded in the 1300 block of Juniper Street around 2:45 p.m., police said. He died after being taken to Duke University Hospital.

Police said that a man shot Rodriguez soon after he got out of his vehicle. The man was last seen running from the scene.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 919-560-4440, extension 29335 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.

"You can't always choose when you might have to fight. At any age. If you're attacked you may have to fight."

Sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy to me. I say there's almost always another option, and in saying so, I am that much more likely to recognize it.

nine times out of ten a person is usually killed by an acquaintance or family member and that is so disturbing.

"He died after being taken to Duke University Hospital."

Does this make it a double murder?
