— A Durham man called 911 early Tuesday to report his own shooting. In the recording of the call, the man can be heard gasping for breath, but he tells the operator that his bleeding is not serious.

Police said Caron Allen, 18, of Wadesboro Street, and Jeremy Turner, 19, of Gerard Street, were shot at about 12:20 a.m. outside the Lynnhaven Apartments complex on Wadesboro Street. One man died at the scene and the other died at the hospital, police said.

It is not clear which man called 911.

Police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said the men knew each other, and the shootings were not random.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 919-560-4440, extension 29350, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

"Nope, I like the MAJORITY of the 225,000 people of Durham do not live in East Durham."
According to Google maps, I live 1.2 miles away from this double homicide, which is 1.7 miles away from the shooting that occurred last week. I've been here for 15 years. My kids play in the yard. I jog on the street. I feel safe.

Statistically, Durham has a higher rate of crime that other localities. Also, the rate of violent crime amoung AA men is significantly higher than that of other races. When did it become racism to point out the facts? I do not believe that every person living in Durham is a violent criminal, but I do know that my chances of being a victim of a violent crime are higher in Durham.

"I find it interesting that no one has mentioned she went to school at a school for kids who have been thrown out of a traditional school. I'm sure she was around some suspect people there, not to mention where she lived. Either way, a sad situation that a 13 year old was killed.

And I do live in Southeast Durham. Close to Brier Creek."

I find it appropriate that people have not brought that into it. I understand it as a defense mechanism that makes us feel safer, but the tendency to blame victims or attribute their demise to the fact that they were far from perfect is troubling nonetheless and ultimately detracts from what deserves to be treated somberly and with compassion.

So sad that two young adults who did not have a chance to do anything with their lives were killed. We need to stop this violence! Perhaps they will listen to the Rev B if he would go and speak. I know won't listen to the parents or police! Sad for society as a whole that life does not matter to these people!

"Two Men Killed..." Men?, hardly. Being able to make babies, vote, or pull a trigger does not make a man. Should read "Two Teens Killed..."

Do these high crime rate neighborhoods participate in a neighborhood watch program of any kind??

This is senseless violence that only demonstrates how pitiful our society is becoming.

Prayers to the families and may the perpertrators be caught soon

Everyone: PLEASE SHUT UP ABOUT DURHAM. There is crime in Raleigh(shooting, drive by's) Chapel Hill(boat loads of drug dealers there they just don't make the news when caught), and Cary(bank robberies). The only difference between them and Durham is when it happens there it doesn't make the news! GO GET A LIFE OR BETTER YET A JOB! I'm off today!!

So basically you're saying she deserved to be gunned down because she went to an alternative school?

"things happen to people who aren't at home in bed resting for work the next day." - LOL....best handle ever as well. Just sort of sucks to be reminded that those that work are working for themselves AND those sitting on their porch pounding alcohol all day.
