A 41-year-old man nearly drowned in a pool at a Durham apartment complex Tuesday evening, police said.

<b>DURHAM, N.C.</b> — A 41-year-old man nearly drowned in a pool at a Durham apartment complex Tuesday evening, police said.

Nearby relatives pulled the man from the pool at the Woods Edge Apartments, 4651 Hope Valley Road, and started performing CPR, police said.

The man, whose identity wasn't released, was taken to Duke University Hospital. An update on his condition wasn't available.

Police were investigating what caused the man to nearly drown.

According to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office, a school resource officer discovered the body of a man inside a vehicle at Hobbton Middle School athletic field. Authorities believe the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
