Durham man missing for nearly a year

Posted May 20, 2011

— The Durham County Sheriff's Office asked the public Friday to share any information they might have about a man who's been missing for nearly a year.

Hollis Kirkland "Kirk" McAbee, 31, was last seen at his home at 2734 Saddle Drive on May 23, 2010. Investigators said his estranged wife found his car at the house, with the key still in the ignition and cash left on the console.

His mother, Cindy, said she knew something was wrong when McAbee, a father of two, missed his son's birthday party.

McAbee is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs approximately 195 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes.

Anyone with any information about McAbee's disappearance is asked to call Durham County Detective Sharon Burmahl at 919-560-0880.

Search warrants state that investigators do not believe that McAbee, who has ties to drug trade, is missing by his own choice.

Authorities once also searched for his friend and business associate, Armando Reyna-Soto, who warrants state might have gone to Mexico. A search warrant also states that McAbee's wife allegedly admitted to having an affair with a friend of her husband's who fled to Mexico after his disappearance.

Kirk is my older brother, and I will be the first to say that he made some mistakes, but who hasn't? Even the best of us have made some poor decisions we wish we could go back and change! When they say that he was involved in the "drug trade", realize that he only sold marijuana, which many people want legalized. He was NOT selling crack & heroin. He was NOT a horrible person.

Also, please realize that he has 2 young children that he loved more than anything on this earth and who idolized their dad. He wanted better for them. He spent time with them daily and worked with them daily to make sure they were learning and ahead of the curve in school. They deserve to know what happened to their dad, as do I and my mom and my other brother. He was a human being who was loved by many, and not a piece of trash to just throw away.

Before passing judgement and spewing hate, think about what you would do if it were your brother, son, father or dad.

"Once you commit that crime, you deserve ANYTHING that comes your way."
I sure hope I don't get kidnapped and buried out in the desert for that illegal u-turn I made a few years back. I mean, I know I deserve it and all, but still...

Lie detector would be a good place to start, might not hold water in court but would clarify her knowledge of any wrong doing,if you mess with the bull sometimes you get the horns.

I feel sorry for his children, not for him nor his wife.

It sounds like somebody has been watching the calendar and trying to get him declared dead so they can get paid.

Yep. I also really don't care for people who have committed a crime. Once you commit that crime, you deserve ANYTHING that comes your way.
