Durham man held without bond in kidnapping, rape

A Durham man was arrested Tuesday and charged in connection with a kidnapping and sexual assault that occurred last week.

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man was arrested Tuesday and charged in connection with a kidnapping and sexual assault that occurred last week.

Durham police said officers responded to a kidnapping call on May 11 in which a woman said a man she knew kidnapped and sexually assaulted her. Authorities said the woman also reported that he took her car and punched her repeatedly.

Randall Lee Bass, 33, was arrested at an apartment on Falls Pointe Drive and charged with assault by strangulation, misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury, two counts of assault on a female, common-law robbery, communicating threats, first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and habitual misdemeanor assault.

He was being held at the Durham County Jail without bond.
