Durham man dies on Colorado ski lift

Posted February 10, 2010

— A Durham man died Monday when he suffered a heart attack while riding the ski lift at the Copper Mountain resort in Colorado, authorities said Wednesday.

Christopher Harrison, 46, arrived in Summit County, Colo., with a group on Saturday, authorities said.

On Monday, witnesses said, Harrison was riding the ski lift when he slumped forward in his chair about halfway up the mountain. When he reached the summit, the lift operator summoned the ski patrol for help.

He was taken to St. Anthony's Copper Mountain Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

You know if I got to pick my way to die, this would be one of them. On vacation, doing an activity I loved and going fast.

Here's hoping to good and deep powder in heaven:)

As much as my heart goes out to his family, that's how I would want to go -- in the midst of a beloved activity, and really fast, without suffering.

Peaceful journey to the other side, Mr. Harrison.
