Durham man charged with shooting toddler

Posted February 19, 2016

— A Durham man was arrested Friday night and charged in a drive-by shooting that injured a toddler Tuesday afternoon on Great Bend Drive.

Authorities arrested Marion Lacount Laney, 26, on Friday at North Creek Drive.

Laney was charged with one count of discharging a firearm into occupied property inflicting serious injury, one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of injury to property and one count of discharging a firearm within the city limits.

Officers responded to the shooting call at 1508 Great Bend Drive just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday and found an 18-month-old boy inside a home who had been shot, authorities said.

Officials said multiple shots were fired by the occupants of a dark-colored sedan.

The boy was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

Investigators said the toddler was not the intended victim and that the shooting did not appear to be a random incident.

Officials said Laney was being held at the Durham County Jail under a $1.5 million bond.

No further information has been released.

Sadly, BLM movement only matters when the "shooter" is white. The hypocricy is outrageous.

Pray tell, where is the out cry, the weeping and gnashing of teeth over the "black lives mater"? Where is the Rev. Barber and the NAACP? Please, give me a break..
