Durham man charged in two attacks on same woman

Durham, N.C. — A Durham County man was charged Thursday in a shooting outside an Orange County motel that left a woman critically wounded, authorities said.
Deputies found Amber Leigh Gottschalk, of Durham County, in the parking lot of the Scottish Inn, at 5303 U.S. Highway 70 East, on Wednesday afternoon. She had been shot multiple times and was in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
Investigators charged Shenandoah Freeman with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in the case.
Freeman was served the warrant at the Wake County jail, where he was being held on charges out of Durham County following an unrelated traffic stop Wednesday night, authorities said.
The kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon charges out of Durham County stemmed from a May 9 incident that also involved Gottschalk, authorities said.
The Scottish Inn shooting remains under investigation, and anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office at 919-644-3050.
