Durham man charged in three bank robberies

Durham, N.C. — A Durham man was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with robbing three banks and attempting to rob a fourth, police said.
Officers responded at 2:44 p.m. to a bank robbery at a BB&T branch at 5028 N. Roxboro St., where a man handed a teller a note demanding money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. About 30 minutes later, police stopped Wayne Leon Weeks, 59, near the intersection of Valley Drive and Holt School Road.
Investigators charged Weeks in the BB&T robbery, as well as the following holdups:
- Nov. 26 at Carter Bank & Trust, 4251 N. Roxboro St.
- Dec. 5 at a BB&T at 1107 N.C. Highway 54.
In both cases, a man handed a teller a note demanding money and fled with cash.
Weeks also is charged with attempted robbery in a Dec. 4 incident at Yadkin Bank, 115 E. Carver St., where a man demanded money but left without taking any, police said.
