Durham man charged in shooting

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police arrested a man Thursday night in connection with a shooting that seriously injured a woman.

Holly Martez Lyons, 21, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling, pattern of gang activity, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

He was in the Durham County jail Friday under a $5 million bond.

Police say Lyons fired shots into a car stopped at a traffic light at North Alston Avenue and Dowd Street Monday morning. The 38-year-old victim was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Investigators say shots also struck a nearby house but that no one inside was injured.
