Durham police charged a 21-year-old man Thursday in connection with the shooting death of a 52-year-old property manager at Oakley Square Apartments.

Shatique Kamal Skinner is charged with murder in the death of Frederick Edgerton, who was shot Monday morning in the 1800 block of Cheek Road.

Investigators said the shooting was not a random act, but they have not released information about a possible motive.

Residents at the complex said Edgerton, known as "Mr. Fred," was a good person who looked out for people who needed help.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Investigator M. Evans at 919-560-4440, ext. 29336 or Durham Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.

One life stolen. The other life wasted. Just sad.

That mugshot does not look like the same person the family/friends of the victim were assaulting on camera. If it isn't the same young man, then the other young man is owed an apology at the very least. Maybe a lawsuit in the near future as he was clearly attacked by two men on camera.
