Durham man charged in seven armed robberies

— A Durham man faces has been charged with committing or attempting to commit seven armed robberies within a one-month period.

Mackenzie Nathaniel Brunson, 19, of Mahala Drive, was arrested on Oct. 3 in the attempted robbery of the Town ‘N Country convenience store at 1423 East Club Blvd.

Officers said Brunson attempted to rob the store with a BB gun.

Brunson was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and was taken to the Durham County jail.

Investigators later charged Brunson with the Oct. 1 armed robbery of the same Town ‘N Country. He was also charged with the following armed robberies:

  • Sept. 30 – Subway, 3500 North Roxboro Road
  • Sept. 27 – BP, 2211 North Roxboro Road
  • Sept. 22 – BP, 2211 North Roxboro Road
  • Sept. 14 – Subway, 3500 North Roxboro Road
  • Sept. 8 – attempted robbery of two people in the parking lot of Town ‘n Country, 1423 East Club Blvd.

Brunson was being held Monday under a $1,050,000 bond at the Durham County jail.

    Wow it is amazing that small minded people are trying this young male in the public. @Faceman; you are sadly mistaken if you think that this kids' life is thrown away. He can and will be rehabilitated and salvaged. It is a shame that in cases like this "we" are so eager to discount these young misguided black males versus trying to help them become productive members of society!!!!
    Let's work to create positive solutions to help our young people especially minority males.

    Since he didn't want to work for a living and terrorize people who are trying to provide for themselves. He should be sentenced to hard labor. No free meals and playing basketball all day on the yard. Show him what it is like to work for a living!! I say bring back the chain gangs and dig out rocks in the quarry with picks and shovels!!

    WOW..Racked up 7 felonies..That should bring a Habitual felon charge too right?? At the age of 19..well kid..you just threw your life away..if they throw the book at you..you might see the streets again when your close to 50yrs old.
