Durham man charged in fatal shooting in park

A Durham man was arrested Friday in connection with a November shooting in a local park that left one man dead and another one wounded, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man was arrested Friday in connection with a November shooting in a local park that left one man dead and another one wounded, police said.

Kenneth Tyvon Jones Jr., 23, was taken into custody at 2201 Morehead Ave. by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Joint Fugitive Task Force. He was charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Officers responding to reports of shots on Lakewood Avenue on Nov. 23 found Quaysean Tymeek Malachi and a second man in Lyon Park with gunshot wounds.

Malachi, 20, of High Point, died later at a local hospital. The second man's wounds weren't life-threatening.

Police said Friday that Jones and Malachi knew each other and that the shooting didn't appear to be random. But they didn't disclose details of a possible motive.
