Durham County sheriff's investigators arrested a 23-year-old Durham man Thursday and charged him with numerous drug felonies, including trafficking heroin.

The investigation began several weeks ago, sheriff's officials said, after they received a tip that Richard Lee Cates Jr., of 1221 N. Mineral Springs Road, was manufacturing and distributing several types of drugs, including heroin and marijuana.

The sheriff's anti-crime and narcotics unit got a search warrant for Cates' house Thursday and seized several weapons and about $1,000 worth of drugs, including:

  • Two .45-caliber pistols and one 9mm-caliber pistol
  • 6 grams of heroin
  • 10 grams of marijuana
  • Numerous Xanax pills

Cates was being held in the Durham County jail under a $150,000 bond on the following charges:

  • Heroin trafficking
  • Possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver heroin
  • Intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a Schedule IV substance (Xanax)
  • Manufacturing marijuana
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Anyone with additional information about this investigation or other drug-related criminal activity in Durham County is asked to call the sheriff’s anonymous crime tip line at 919-560-0940.

Doen't worry --timexliving--. Gun control will keep us safe from gun "possessor's" like him.

Let me guess. He didn't have a conceal/carry permit for his guns? Criminals never do. Meanwhile, good law abiding citizens are being threatened to have their means of self-defense taken away from them.

Good! Lock these people up!

Small business owner, supplying a demand. Big Pharma hates the competition.

so he will be out....monday?
