Durham library hosts teen job readiness workshop

Durham County Library will host a Teen Job Readiness Workshop to help teens and youg adults for real-world work experience.

The workshop, scheduled for Saturday, March 8, is part of the Durham YouthWork Internship Program, a joint initiative with the city of Durham, Durham County and Durham Public Schools. The program is designed for teens ages 13 to 19 and will be held at Durham's Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.

The workshop will cover topics such as filling out job applications, professional use of social media, interviewing and volunteering. A session for teens ages 13 to 15 is 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The program for older teens, ages 16 to 19, is 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is required.

“Many young people have little or no experience filling out job applications, writing résumés, interviewing or even interacting in a professional environment,” said Placedia Nance, the teen librarian at the Main Library, in a press release. “They also may not realize that many of the things they’re learning in the classroom are imperative in the workplace – writing, math and organizational skills are all invaluable. We help them make those connections.”
