Wake County Library Book Sale returns to the Fairgrounds

Here's a cheap way to fill your house with books for the school year and beyond ... and maybe even pick up a few Christmas presents too.

Friends of the Durham Library will hold its fall book sale starting this Friday. Friday's shopping hours are only for members of the Friends organization, but the general public can join at the door.

According to a press release, the sale will feature thousands of new and gently used books and media for kids and adults. It takes place at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St., Durham, in the auditorium and garage and under tents set up for the event.

Prices range from 50 cents for paperbacks to $1 for hard covers, the press release says. The earlier you shop, the better deals you'll get.

The sale runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, for Friends members only. The public can join the group at the door starting at 2 p.m. Memberships are $15 for adults, $5 for kids 18 and under, $10 for seniors over 65 and $25 for families. Friends also get a regular newsletter, a 10 percent off discount at several local bookstores and a selection of suggested reads from library staff.

The sale opens to the public on Saturday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday. Shopping hours are 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, when you can fill a paper grocery bag supplied by the Friends and pay just $7.

The Friends of the Durham Library is a nonprofit, volunteer group that has raised more than $1 million over the last 40 years to help the library.

Wake County library's annual book sale is set for Dec. 11 to Dec. 14 at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.
Friends of the Chapel Hill Public Library will hold its next big sale Dec. 5 to Dec. 7.
