Durham, N.C. — The Beats n Bars Festival isn't until September -- but event organizers have already planned several pop-up events this month to get hip hop fans excited for the fall.
The Beats n Bars Kickstarter will flood Durham with a series of free “pop-up” events each Saturday evening in June. Four upcoming venues include:
June 16: Third Friday Party at the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau
June 17: Five Points
June 24: King’s Sandwich Shop
June 24: Dance party at Social Games and Brews
The events are planned to celebrate hip hop culture and prepare people for the September 22-23 festival that features over 30 performers, including four mainstream headliners and several North Carolina artists such as G Yamazawa, OC from NC, The Real Laww and Kaze.
The mission of each Beats n Bars event is “to build stronger community through the influence of urban culture and music." Organizers say festival goers can expect to be actively engaged through art display fixtures, panel discussions on culture relations and community impact, exposure to real hip hop music and an introduction to break out artists.
All pop-up events are free, but you can purchase tickets for the festival online.
