Durham friends host 'Be Kind Day' to promote community

Durham, N.C. — A group of friends have dedicated Sept. 9 of each year as "Kind Day," and this year's celebration was no different.
Carrie Grace, Amanda, Emily and Sarah gathered at Durham Central Park on Saturday to give away 150 popsicles, ice cream sandwiches and balloons.
The point? To promote kindness -- and fun -- in the Triangle.
In exchange for their free giveaways, all the girls ask is that kids and adults who stop by the booth fill out a card to take home that remind them of one simple motto -- "be kind."
"People came up to thank us for having an event like this that promotes kindness in a time when the world desperately needs more," said Carrie Grace. "People also remembered us from last year and said how thrilled they were to see that we were back again!"
