— All lanes of N.C. Highway 147 in Durham were reopened before noon Friday after power lines were removed from the roadway, police said.

Duke Energy officials said the lines fell near Briggs Avenue after being hit by a vehicle overnight. Authorities closed the highway at about 4 a.m.

Northbound lanes reopened shortly before 11 a.m. Southbound lanes reopened about a half-hour later.

The downed lines left about 2,000 Duke customers without power Friday morning. Jeff Brooks, a spokesman for the Charlotte-based utility, said most would be back online by noon, although about 450 would remain without power until early afternoon.

Its easy to say folks should have gone another but sadly with all the implants from other areas they know no other way to go!!! If their main way is blocked or closed then they tend to just drive around aimlessly looking for a familiar landmark!

kiki, your comment simply isn't true. No matter how you slice it, most of the drivers here are still native southerners.

The design of the road systems (NC State engineer :/), the education of southern drivers, and the poor education result in an insurmountable amount of idiocracy found daily on the road way in NC.

A true sign of the uneducated is the idiotic ramblings of people who stereotype others.

nobodyknow-Considering I'd say the majority of drivers around here are Northern, I think your comment is off base.

This coming from a Northerner herself.

..nobodyknow420...why not point your car North and just keep driving...didnt ask you to move down here.

    "the education of southern drivers"

EXCUSE ME nobodyknow420, but MOST of the drivers these days are NORTHERN.....and they are NOT all good drivers....not here not where they came from.

THIS WAS A CLUSTER. The reason traffic was so backed up (coming out of Durham) was the cops were sitting in their car while the stop light at the top of Bragg was running like normal. It's an office park, not a major intersection! Get out of the car and direct traffic.

scubagirl-Exactly! I was watching the news this morning, and I knew it was going to be bad. I took 55 to Cornwallis to get into Durham. Hwy 55 was a disaster right around Cornwallis. The traffic from 55 to make a left onto Cornwallis was the worst I've ever seen.
