Durham firefighter injured in training accident

A Durham firefighter was injured during a training exercise on Jordan Lake Tuesday afternoon.

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham firefighter was injured during a training exercise on Jordan Lake Tuesday afternoon.

A boating accident occurred while fire technician Erick Rozier was participating in urban search-and-rescue training. The training involved boat operations which is directly related to the fire department’s role as a member of the Task Force 8, Urban, Search and Rescue Team (USAR).

Rozier sustained major head injuries, authorities said. He was listed in critical condition at UNC Hospitals Thursday morning.

Rozier has been with the Durham Fire Department for more than nine years and a member of the department’s USAR Team for three years.

Durham fire officials said the accident was under investigation.
