Durham educator to lead Indianapolis schools
Durham Public Schools chief of staff Lewis Ferebee has been chosen as superintendent of Indianapolis Public Schools.

“After an intensive search process, we are excited to have Dr. Ferebee leading our district. We are ready to move forward on behalf of our children with his guidance,” said Diane Arnold, president of the Board of School Commissioners in Indianapolis, said in a statement.
The board still has to work out Ferebee's contract and hold a formal vote to approve his hiring and the contract.
"I am honored to learn that the Indianapolis Public Schools Board has selected me as their preferred superintendent candidate," Ferebee said in a statement. "Together, I believe we can remarkably enhance the educational opportunities to which our children avail themselves."
Ferebee has been with Durham Public Schools for three years. He previously spent 10 years with Guilford County Schools as a principal and administrator.
He earned his doctorate from East Carolina University, a master’s degree from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina Central University.
