Durham deputy struck by car will recover, office says

— A Durham County Sheriff's Office deputy who was hit by a car on Tuesday is sore but escaped major injuries, the office said.

Deputy T.D. Hart was part of a funeral escort at the intersection of Broad and Perry streets when a driver failed to stop as the procession traveled by, according to a Facebook post by the office. The driver struck Hart's motorcycle, knocking him and the bike to the ground.

Hart sprained his ankle and suffered some other minor injuries but will make a full recovery.

    I agree with Amy, they are indeed the best. I am so glad this deputy will recover. Thank you to all the deputies who escort our loved ones on their final ride. Its a shame people do not respect a funeral procession.

    Those motorcycle escorts for Durham funerals are the best!!! Had them for both my parents and I was very impressed. So sad to hear of this officer struck, but glad he will be ok.
