A Durham brewery beat out 30 other award-winning beers this week at the NC Brewers Cup to bring home the title of Best in Show.

Bull City Burger and Brewery wooed judges with its traditional Schwarzbier, called Star Lite Black Night Black Lager. The dark, crisp beer beat out Wise Man Brewing's (Winston-Salem) Week's Work English Mild Ale and Innovation Brewing's (Sylva) Tactical Corset, a European sour, which finished second and third, respectively, for Best in Show.

Honorable mention went to Haw River Farmhouse Ales' Saxy Machismo, a Belgian Quadruple aged in bourbon barrels.

The competition is sanctioned by the Beer Judge Certification Program and the North Carolina State Fair. A panel of judges selected the winning examples of each style from 599 commercial entries and 141 homebrewers.

The event was organized by the NC Craft Brewers Guild and sponsored by Total Wine and More.
