Durham, N.C. — A candlelight vigil was held Saturday in memory of a 4-year-old who died after being hit by a car Monday night.
Jeri Dee Quick had been playing in the front yard of a home in the 3500 block of Dearborn Drive around 9:15 p.m. when police say she ran out into the road to greet her father and was struck by a Honda Accord.
Quick, who attended Mt. Zion Christian Academy, was taken to Duke University Hospital, where she died Tuesday morning.
Members of the community placed balloons and flowers at the shop where she was hit.
A funeral is planned for Tuesday at the First United Antioch Baptist Church in Durham.
The Accord's driver, Jacqueline Lyons, 57, of Durham, was distraught and also taken to the hospital as a precaution. Police don't expect to file charges in the case, saying neither alcohol nor speed were factors.
