Duplin magistrate won't be charged for alleged false reports
Duplin County District Attorney Dewey Hudson said Thursday that he doesn't plan to charge a magistrate for allegedly making false police reports about being assaulted at her home.
Posted — UpdatedBeulaville police officers made a welfare check at the Stanford Street home of Catherine Rhodes around 11 p.m. March 30. Inside, they found Rhodes, who had been stabbed several times and told them two men had attacked her.
Hudson said that evidence made officers doubt Rhodes' story and that when confronted, she admitted to making it up.
After Rhodes returned to her home Wednesday against doctors' orders, a neighbor called 911, saying that they saw her punching out windows, Hudson said. When officers arrived, he said, she told them she had been attacked, but when shown evidence to the contrary, admitted that she hadn't been assaulted.
Hudson said that the evidence against Rhodes does not rise to the level of a criminal offense. Instead, she is getting medical treatment at a facility, which Hudson wouldn't identify.
