Dunn teen injured in park shooting

Posted February 29, 2012

— A 16-year-old boy was in critical condition at WakeMed Wednesday after being shot at a Dunn park, police said.

Austin Caulder was sitting in his car in the parking lot of Tyler Park around 7:30 p.m. Monday when he was shot, police said. He had been with friends before going to the park.

Investigators said they believe Caulder knew the shooter, but a motive hasn't been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Dunn police at 910-892-2399.

I'm another gun-toting liberal. I would like to live in a perfect world where people followed the law but that isn't reality. Laws prohibiting concealed carry only take guns away from law-abiding citizens. The bad guys aren't going to think "oh, I guess I can't carry my nine now." I believe that the people who take the 8 hour class, apply for the permit and legally buy their gun are the least likely to use it to rob a bank. Sorry, I just don't see someone going to the sherrif saying "I would like to carry a gun and this is the one I'm carrying" if they plan on using it to break the law. Those will ill intent get their weapons by underhanded means usually. I say usually because there are always exceptions.

I just hope this kid recovers and goes on to lead a happy, productive life, despite whatever was going on in the park that day.

When an article was published recently about allowing concealed carry permit holders to carry their weapons in public parks, many of the comments to that article were asking "Why would anyone need to carry a gun in a park?" Perhaps this is one answer to that question... Folks are assaulted and robbed in parks, same as anywhere else!

According to the Dunn Daily News, the police believe this to be a drug related shooting. 'Nuff said.

Once again. A bullet and gun do not have a brain. Unfortunately,
there are also some so-called reasonable humans that don't have much of one either.

Why not? They hand out permits to any Tom, Dick and Harry that has the price of one. - fayncmike

Let's see, I had to fill out the paper work and wait a week while Wake County did a background check My name is neither Tom, Dick nor Harry so I guess I wasn't lucky enough to get the free handout to purchase my pistol like the three people you stated were able to do. I know feel violated that my rights were infringed upon.

"Do you really think that the person that shot him was carrying a gun legally?

Why not? They hand out permits to any Tom, Dick and Harry that has the price of one.

From a Conservative Democrat(not many of us left) gun owner, my prayers for a full recovery.

I guess the only reason this was put out is that the police can't find any witnesses, because there sure isn't enough information here to discern what happened.

I am losing interest in these forum discussions. The reason for that is because the same people are always jumping to the same irrational conclusions, as a kneejerk reaction. There is not enough information in this story to even speculate upon.

I teach firearms classes for concealed, and other purposes. If my students didn't learn from me, any better than some of y'all have, I would think that I am a very bad teacher. Since that is not the case, I have to assume that some of y'all are very bad students.

Some of y'all have it together. Some of y'all have it sort of together. Some of y'all don't have it, or refuse to accept it. Just thought I would share a few well thought out observations. It appears to me that this is a waste of your time.

This shooting was most likely done with a stolen firearm. Until people are punished to the full extent of the law , needless shootings will continue. Also, after seeing the American man in the Mexican prison on the news last weekend, our American prisons are a joke. They look like a high class resort motel compared to the Mexican prison system !
