DUNN, N.C. — A Dunn man received 19.5 years in prison by a federal judge Monday for firearm offenses.

David Ellis, 53, pled guilty to possession of a stolen firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm.

The charges stem from a Feb. 11, 2012 incident where Ellis hit his girlfriend and her mother in the face and kicked the mother in the chest after she fell to the ground, federal prosecutors said in a statement.

“During a standoff with police, Ellis terrorized his girlfriend,” the statement said. “He threatened to shoot her and gave her a bullet to further intimidate her. The stand-off ended when Ellis and his girlfriend emerged from the home after the Harnett County SRT team was called out.”

Ellis previously faced assault and other charges from an October 2011 incident.

The case was tried under Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative bringing federal, state and local authorities together to target repeat gun crime offenders.
