RALEIGH, N.C. — A judge sentenced the culprit Tuesday for an April hit-and-run that took the life of a Raleigh cook.

Gavin Clifford Hawk, 28, of 713-A Peace St., will serve 19 to 23 months for the felony death by motor vehicle of Ian Kristopher Quick.

Police said Quick, 25, died when an SUV struck his mo-ped on eastbound Interstate 40 at Gorman Street in Raleigh.

The Raleigh Times, where Quick worked as a cook, held a memorial service and fundraiser in his honor after his April 28 death.

"We just thought it was fitting to celebrate everybody that he has touched, and everything that he has done,” said David McComas, Raleigh Times general manager.
