DURHAM, N.C. — Duke University planned to test an outdoor alert system Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. The system combines sirens and recorded messages broadcast across the Durham campus and in nearby neighborhoods.

The test was to take place Wednesday between 2 and 4:30 p.m. and Thursday between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The system, called DukeALERT, would be used to warn students, faculty and staff of an on-campus emergency.
