— A gunman robbed a student on Duke University's East Campus early Sunday, campus police said.

The student told police that two men approached him between Basset and Brown residence halls as he was walking back to campus from West Main Street around 1 a.m. The men indicated they had a weapon, stole the student's cell phone and fled toward Buchanan and Markham streets.

The student wasn't injured, police said.

Campus and Durham police are investigating the robbery. No arrests had been made as of Monday morning.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Duke University police at 919-684-2444.

    Wait....

    Let's review.

ECU, UNCW and Wake Tech all get locked down for someone allegedly with a gun "NEAR CAMPUS", and a Duke student gets robbed ON CAMPUS by a guy with a gun and it's below-the-fold news?

It is a felony to possess a firearm on campus in NC. Oops, I guess the gunman didn't know that. Funny about gun free zones. Criminals just don't read the rules, or follow them. Or you could vote in some leaders who respect the Bill of Rights and get rid of these laws that make it a crime to protect yourself. Gun control is really people control.

Multiple studies have shown no link between crime and the economy, this happens more on east campus than other parts of Duke.

lot of this going on, will see more as this economy is in the ditch.

Can you maybe pass on a description of the perps?

Sorry folks.. but you cannot be out at 1 am in Durham by yourself.

In fact, you cannot be anywhere at 1 am by yourself anymore (unless you are packing a "snack").

I want the protestors to protest that!

Not a bad idea, should just dial 911 and handed it over to the crooks. lol

    @ Here2tellya

What fantasy world are you living in? Dial 911 on the phone as you hand it over?

SO tired of these criminals picking on unarmed students. Leave us alone!

I am glad that the student was okay... as well as those girls at NC State who were robbed at gunpoint and the jogger at UNC who was pushed to the ground and had her iPod stolen. So many instances this past week...

again, PEPPER SPRAY, even if you hit them with it as they are running away it still BURNS and may be able to slow the offender down enough for cops to catch him. And dial 911 as you hand them your phone.....if there is a chance to do so. At least nobody was shot.
