Duke signee Cooper Flagg won the Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year award on Wednesday.

Former Duke and current Orlando Magic player Paolo Banchero surprised Flagg with the announcement on Tuesday afternoon in the gym at Montverde Academy in front of Flagg's family, high school coaches and teammates.

Flagg won the award over other finalists Airious Bailey and VJ Edgecombe for the award.

Bailey is signed with Rutgers and Edgecombe is committed to Baylor.

Flagg led Montverde Academy in Florida to a perfect 30-0 record during the 2023-24 season. He averaged 16.1 points on 54.8% shooting, 7.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.7 blocks per game.

Flagg transferred to Montverde at the end of his freshman year. He initially attended Nokomis Regional High School in Newport, Maine.

Flagg joins several other Duke players who have won the Gator National Player of the Year award: R.J. Barrett (2018), Jayson Tatum (2016) and Jabari Parker (2012).
